3:30PM: @malaika.hailey Calgary, AB
Multi-genre vocalist Malaika Hailey grew up being classically trained (and winning competitions) in Winnipeg before moving to Calgary. Her debut album Spiritual Gangster dropped in April and kicks off with a prayer for the listener before Hailey chews up tracks ranging from minimal, bass-rattling bangers to neon-coloured pop tunes.
4:30PM: @tanajaraps Raleigh, NC
North Carolina rapper Tanajah began freestyling in middle school and even studied drums during university. These experiences helped inspire her to chase a rap career full time. Things are paying off — a chance connection with a Danish producer led to signing with record label Blikflak and appearances at festivals abroad. Her latest EP What If Dreams Came True? features positivity anthems (“V.I.B.E.”) alongside horned-up bangers (“Give It To Me”).
5:30PM: @moraine_ Edmonton, AB
R&B storyteller Mouraine has steadily grown his audience through his nuanced brand of hip-hop that breaks through the noise and blasts out stereo speakers. Distilling a lifetime of stories and lessons into his debut album In Search of Gold, Mouraine speaks openly about dreams and struggles in a manner that is immediately relatable, inspiring and worthy of hype.
6:30PM: @kthechosen Calgary, AB
Known in some circles as “Calgary’s Friendly Neighbourhood Rapper,” KTheChosen blends entertainment with enlightenment in his music, drawing from his Zimbabwean roots and Canadian experiences. His latest EP IRL delves into the complexities of relationships and self-expression, harnessing the power of rhythmic storytelling to share personal experiences with love and vulnerability.
