SLED @ THE SHIP
Friday June 21st – Afternoon Showcase
3:00PM: @norakellyband Montreal, QC
You’ll find Nora Kelly Band somewhere on the corner of soothing bedroom rock and soulful rancher twang. The band cuts through country tradition to bring youth-charged energy to the forefront on their debut album, Rodeo Clown. If you’re looking for the intersection of Waylon Jennings and City and Colour, you’ve come to the right place.
4:00PM: @rebelgrrrlzband Calgary, AB
Rebel Grrrlz are a five-piece Canadian riot grrrl/punk band from Calgary, Alberta. The band formed in 2022 from a collection of girls who met at Girls Rock Camp, now known as BAM Camp. Their unique style fuses loud and fast music, with gang vocals with a punk sound that will make you want to dance.
4:30PM: @mandthespanks Calgary, AB
Brawny two-piece Miesha and The Spanks are not only local heroes – they are stylish purveyors of snarky classic rock snarl. There is a certain playful energy to their snotty punk anthems that lends itself best to the atmosphere of a Sled Island rager.
5:30PM: @heavenforreal Toronto,ON / Halifax, NS
Like a brooding Vampire Weekend, Heaven for Real’s light-hearted, jumpy string work gives way to heavy distortion, almost glitchy guitar work, and an intentionally undertoned synth melody. With softly crooned vocals harkening back to the indie sleaze of the early aughts, this is groovy noise for those who want to dance all night.
6:30pm @knitting_band Montreal, QC
knitting weaves languid melodies over slow guitars and catchy lyrics. This is perfectly captured on their self-titled debut album. Somewhere between being wistful and jubilant, the group’s lo-fi indie rock and dream-pop sensibility conjure a hazy trip down lanes of nostalgia.
